I’ve had many training partners, some good some bad, some ugly. I’ve trained alone a lot too, sometimes that’s better, no chit chat, just hard training at my time and terms, and my selfishness (in this situation I’m the ugly one referred to above). But a special bond is formed when you have a good training partner and you’re a good training partner. They push and challenge you to heights you otherwise would never achieve. Just by being there watching makes you do those extra reps that you couldn’t dream of doing otherwise, it’s like calling Mum to watch while you pop that wheelie. It reminds me of a bible verse in proverbs that’s so true: As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. Proverbs 27:17
At the moment I have the best training partners in the world, my heros, my boys. Two are not included in the photo as he is only 3, maybe he can start next year, deadlifts and squats for starters, also, Mum not included as the 3 year old needs a babysitter.
It’s not easy finding a good training partner to match your zeal though, so you might need to go it alone. If you’re lonely training alone, remember Somebody is always there with you: “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5
